Olympic gold medalist Shaun White lives with congenital heart defect

American snowboarder Shaun White won the Olympic gold medal in the men’s halfpipe Feb. 14—a date which, fittingly, coincided with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Awareness Week.

White was born with Tetralogy of Fallout and has undergone three operations to repair his heart. His rise to the top of snowboarding—he now has three gold medals—has inspired children with CHD and their parents, as pointed out in this CBS Sports story:
