Rape charges against Texas cardiologist dropped as part of plea agreement
Aman Patel, a Texas cardiologist accused of sexual assault, has had a majority of the charges against him—including those for first- and second-degree rape—dropped as part of a plea agreement in Talbot County Circuit Court in Easton, Maryland.
Court records show that Patel pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree assault as a part of that agreement. He was released from jail and will serve five years of probation.
In 2025, multiple hospital employees who had worked with Patel when he traveled to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton, Maryland, came forward with allegations that they had been touched and/or kissed inappropriately. According to Patel’s legal team, however, the evidence brought against his client was limited and unconvincing.
“None of these charges should’ve ever been brought,” Andrew V. Jezic, Patel’s attorney, said in an interview with Maryland newspaper The Star Democrat. “There was just a lot of risk and exposure and expense for the doctor, so this was a complete compromise on his part in order to put this behind him, to reduce risk, to get out of jail and to attempt to move on with his life.”
Jezic, a criminal defense attorney with Jezic & Moyse, added that he believes there was initially a “rush to judgement” in this case. Ultimately, he said, “justice was served.”
