Long Island cardiologist pleads guilty to planning arson, assault of ex-boss
A cardiologist from Long Island, New York, pleaded guilty Oct. 25 to first-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal sale of a drug prescription, third-degree arson and conspiracy to commit an assault, Newsday reports.
Authorities alleged that Anthony Moschetto, MD, arranged an arson attempt to burn down the office of Martin Handler, MD, another cardiologist in the area. The newspaper reported that Moschetto admitted to a conspiracy charge that related to him paying a co-conspirator to assault Handler, for whom he had previously worked.
Moschetto received a five-year prison sentence, seven years less than what prosecutors had asked for as part of the plea deal.
