Cardiologist-led AI startup launches, secures $15M in funding

Abridge, a Pittsburgh-based startup focused on using AI to help patients better understand their own healthcare, has officially launched, announcing $15 million in funding.

Abridge uses AI models to annotate recorded conversations with medical professionals. The smartphone application explains jargon, emphasizes key points and records the time and date of when any scheduled follow-up appointments.

Shiv Rao, MD, co-founder and CEO of Abridge, worked as a cardiologist before starting the company.

Abridge noted that it has already worked with approximately 50,000 clients. The $15 million in funding includes investments by Union Square Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, Pillar and KdT Ventures, among others. The new funds are expected to go toward bringing in additional employees and fine-tuning the company's AI models.
