Pulmonary embolism (PE) treatment has evolved over time, yet it remains the third leading cause of cardiovascular death across the United States.

TriStar Health, a comprehensive health system serving Tennessee and Kentucky and part of HCA Healthcare, is now using an AI platform to support clinicians in providing more effective care for PE patients. The platform has enhanced the TriStar Health team’s ability to respond to PE cases.

“We’ve used AI to help with communication on the front end, when you’re trying to diagnose and triage the patient, as well as the back end, when you want to send feedback to providers to tell them how they did,” Samuel Horr, MD, an interventional cardiologist with TriStar Centennial Medical Center and physician director for HCA Healthcare in Nashville, Tennessee, told Cardiovascular Business in a new video interview. “We were able to do all that through this one platform. And this technology has a lot of potential—we are really just scratching the surface of what AI can do for our program.”
