The new-look devices are soft, flexible, transparent and roughly the size of a postage stamp.

The minimally invasive system is made up of two pacemakers that send signals back and forth to one another. One pacemaker is placed on the patient's right ventricle, and the other is placed on the patient's right atrium. 

The three-year grant will help the ADA fund two pilot programs and engage with healthcare professionals and other industry leaders.

"Psychologists have had little involvement in the care of cardiac patients but this needs to change," one researcher said in a statement. 

“It is your firm’s responsibility to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations administered by FDA,” according to the warning letter. These issues, the agency added, “may be symptomatic of serious problems in your firm’s manufacturing and quality management systems.”

The newly approved device is powered by Bluetooth technology and available with a three- or six-year battery.
