FDA clears GE Revolution Vibe CT scanner aimed at rapidly growing CCTA market

GE HealthCare recently received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its Revolution Vibe CT system, which the company said is squarely aimed at the rapidly growing coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) market. The company also announced its first commercial install.

The system is optimized for cardiac imaging with fast temporal resolution to freeze heart motion, high image quality and integrated artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tools streamlining workflow and improving image quality at lower doses.

“Revolution Vibe’s FDA clearance comes at the perfect time, with guidelines being adopted clinically for cardiac CT and with positive reimbursement driving procedure growth, this is the time to usher in a new era of cardiac imaging,” explained Jean-Luc Procaccini, president and CEO, molecular imaging and computed tomography, GE HealthCare, in a statement. “Designed to help clinicians detect coronary artery disease and help plan valvular heart interventions quickly and confidently, even in complex cases, Revolution Vibe offers a practical, high-performance solution to help improve diagnostic accuracy, reduce exam time and support better patient outcomes.”

As the demand for CCTA continues to rise, all the major CT vendors have released new systems in the past two years aimed at this market. The Revolution Vibe is the latest addition, but unlike other vendors that debuted their systems at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting, this system was launched at the 2025 American College of Cardiology (ACC) earlier this year to to appeal directly to cardiac imagers.

"We were seeing higher demand, and the higher reimbursement is driving more and more of these procedures from an economics perspective into the outpatient environment. So we needed to come up with a scanner that allowed you to do really high-end cardiac work in an outpatient environment ... but with the capability that you see at the flagship hospital," Ty Bode, senior director of strategy at GE HealthCare, explained during a video interview with Cardiovascular Business at ACC.25.

GE said the Revolution Vibe is engineered to address the most difficult cardiac exams, including patients with arrhythmias, heavily calcified coronaries and valves, stents or bypasses. The system’s Unlimited One-Beat Cardiac imaging delivers full-heart clarity at low dose, even in cases without an ECG trace. The company said innovative features include ECG-less Cardiac CT, TrueFidelity DL, SnapShot Freeze 2, and Effortless Cardiac Workflow to optimize image quality and reduce exam time, helping make cardiac CT more accessible and efficient.

In clinical evaluations, the scanner's Effortless Workflow technology demonstrated a 50% reduction in exam time, and up to five minutes saved in patient preparation per scan. It also optimized CCTA exam scheduling, doubling capacity. The company said these efficiencies are driven by automated protocol selection, simplified positioning, and minimized reliance on beta blockers and ECG connections.

Beyond cardiac imaging, the system also supports general imaging needs and is designed to help facilities expand service lines while managing lifecycle costs. With energy-efficient design, Smart Subscription, fleet management and extensive training, the system offers a future-ready solution for healthcare providers.

First install of a Revolution Vibe for cardiac imaging

The first healthcare institution to install a Revolution Vibe is Radiologie du Var – ELSAN, a leading medical imaging provider in the Toulon region of southern France. It is known for its advanced imaging capabilities and commitment to innovation, the institution performs one of the highest volumes of cardiovascular imaging in France.

“The cardiac CT revolution is just beginning and we are thrilled to be a part of it,” Sébastien Saint Germain, director, Radiologie du Var – ELSAN, said in a statement. “With Revolution Vibe in our fleet, we feel better prepared to meet growing demand for cardiac imaging and are proud to offer a fast, noninvasive diagnostic solution to our patients."
