AHA video: Remote program as effective as in-person for obesity
ORLANDO, Fla.—A weight loss program delivered by health coaches over the phone with website and email support, but no in-person contact was as effective as one delivered in person, the study’s lead researcher Lawrence J. Appel, MD, MPH, explained to Cardiovascular Business, who also spoke to the growing trend within U.S. healthcare system.
The goal of the POWER trial was to have the participants lose at least 5 percent of initial weight within six months, and keep it off during the duration of the 24-month study. The trial was presented Nov. 15 at the 2011 American Heart Association (AHA) scientific sessions.
