Medtronic expands peripheral portfolio with new distribution deal
Medtronic has finalized an exclusive distribution deal with Japanese medtech company Future Medical Design (FMD) to sell the company’s stainless steel peripheral guidewires in the United States.
The agreement makes Medtronic the sole U.S. distributor of a variety of F-14 and F-18 peripheral guidewires built to reach lesions with a transradial approach. In fact, the 400 cm, 0.018” peripheral guidewire is the first device of its type and size to be made available in the United States. Each devices include a stainless-steel core and multiple tip loads.
“The F-14 and F-18 guidewires offer the tactile feedback, wire strength and control physicians need for lower extremity interventions, while also expanding radial access tools, a significant advancement,” John Laird, MD, chief medical officer of Medtronic’s peripheral vascular health business, said in a statement. “The addition of these to the Medtronic portfolio is a meaningful step forward for our customers and the patients they serve.”
“These stainless steel guidewires are a valuable addition to our product suite,” added David Moeller, president of Medtronic’s peripheral vascular health business. “We are committed to equipping physicians with the tools they need and now have a more complete guidewire portfolio to offer physicians for a variety of needs, including transradial approaches.”
FMD has three decades of experience in the medical device market, designing and developing new technologies for coronary, peripheral and neurovascular procedures. This new agreement with Medtronic represents an introduction of FMD’s devices to U.S. healthcare providers.
