New initiative to fund pulmonary embolism research
Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) care has advanced over the years, but knowledge gaps remain. Best practices for certain populations are still unclear, for example, and questions live on about treating intermediate-risk patients.
To help advance research in these areas, the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) Consortium has partnered with AngioDynamics to launch the ALPHA-PE Research Fund. This will be an physician-led initiative supporting independent PE research that addresses critical real-world evidence gaps in PE care. Awards will range from $50,000 to $750,000 over one to three years.
“We are incredibly excited about this collaboration and the opportunity it creates for the PE community,” Amir Darki, MD, co-chair of the National PERT Research Consortium and associate professor of medicine-cardiology at Loyola University Medical Center, said in a statement. “Physician-led, investigator-driven research is essential to closing critical evidence gaps in pulmonary embolism care. The ALPHA-PE Research Fund represents a meaningful investment in supporting innovation, fostering collaboration, and advancing impactful research that will directly inform real-world practice and improve patient outcomes.”
