A cardiologist in Canada who received two years’ probation for assaulting and threatening to kill his wife has not paid the more than $600,000 he owes her. The Hamilton Spectator, which has covered the doctor’s case every step of the way, provided this latest update on April 25.
In April 2022, cardiologist Amin Mulji out of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife in and leaving her multiple threatening voicemails. He faced many other charges as well, including some related to sexual assault, but the other charges were ultimately withdrawn.
Mulji’s wife also filed a lawsuit against him, citing “verbal, emotional, physical, mental and financial abuse.” The Hamilton Spectator has reported that Mulji never participated in the civil case and was ordered to pay his wife more than $600,000—including retroactive and future interest. He has allegedly not yet paid that money.
Mulji still works for Hamilton Health Sciences, but the health system has said he is on a leave of absence. He is still allowed to see patients in his office.
