Startup bringing AI-powered robotics to the cath lab raises $160M from GE HealthCare, other investors

Laza Medical, a California-based medtech company, has raised up to $160 million in new Series B financing led by GE HealthCare. Additional investors included Unorthodox Ventures, PA MedTech, and AMED.

Laza Medical is a privately held portfolio company of Shifamed, a California-based medical innovation hub founded by entrepreneur Amr Salahieh. Salahieh also serves as the founder and chairman of the board of Laza Medical.

Laza Medical is focused on developing artificial intelligence (AI)-powered robotic imaging technologies for the cath lab. The company’s flagship product, the Laza Medical System, is being developed to help clinicians perform structural heart, electrophysiology and diagnostic procedures in the cath lab. Its advanced AI algorithms provide a real-time view of the patient’s heart. In addition, the technology is being built to guide the user through each and every step thanks to echocardiography-based tracking capabilities.

The company previously secured $36 million in financing back in December 2023. GE HealthCare was involved with that funding round as well.

“The cath lab is poised for a fundamental evolution, and intelligent imaging powered by AI will play a defining role in what comes next,” Salahieh said in a statement. “As we reimagine the role of imaging in interventional care, we are grateful for the strong support from our investors, which validates our approach and reinforces our conviction that this solution will streamline processes, reduce variability, and ultimately improve the quality and reach of cardiac procedures.”

“The future of cardiac intervention must be one where access, consistency, and quality of care are no longer barriers to better outcomes,” added Jyoti Gera, CEO of cardiovascular and interventional solutions at GE HealthCare. “Integrating imaging modalities so they work seamlessly together has the potential to redefine the cath lab, enabling more efficient workflows today and paving the way for smarter, robotic procedures tomorrow. We’re excited to expand our collaboration with Laza and work together toward this shared vision.”
