Cardiologist leaves practice after sexual assault accusation

Dr. Michael Stephen Connelly, a 65-year-old cardiologist based out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, has withdrawn from practicing after news of a sexual assault accusation went public.

The alleged incident occurred in December 2012, according to a new report from CTV News, and was reported in October 2021. Connelly has been accused of inappropriately touching a patient during an examination. He was charged with one count of sexual assault.

“We understand that it can take time to process these kinds of events and there is no time limit on when victims of sexual assault can come forward to police," Staff Sgt. Michelle Doyle with the Calgary Police Service, said in a prior interview with CTV News. “As individuals and as the greater public, we need to have confidence in those responsible for our medical care.”
