Heart practice leaves Memorial Medical Center

Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants, based in Springfield, Illinois, will stop practicing at Memorial Medical Center by the end of this month and serve patients only at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, reports The State Journal-Register.

Prairie has decided to leave Memorial to remain consistent with local and national trends in which physician groups focus their energies at just one institution instead of several.

With Prairie leaving, Memorial could see annual profits drop by as much as $16 million.

"I have great respect for the doctors of Prairie," Memorial CEO Edgar Curtis said. "I'm disappointed because I think they're really good doctors, and I like patients to have a choice."
