VIDEO: American College of Cardiology working to propel cardiovascular innovation

Ami Bhatt, MD, the American College of Cardiology (ACC) chief innovation officer, and an adult congenital heart disease cardiologist at Mass General Hospital, discusses how ACC is working with vendors to promote the development of new technologies to aid cardiology practice. She took over as the ACC chief innovation offiuce in january 2022.

The American College of Cardiology (ACC), recognizing an opportunity to bring a clinical view and a patient voice to medical innovation, has created the ACC Innovation Program, which is overseen by several senior cardiology leaders. The program's Innovation Development Work Group includes James Januzzi, Mike Mack, Fred Masoudi, Roxana Mehran and Rick Chazal.

The program works to identify new technologies that can improve cardiac care. The ACC then aids and promotes the development of these new technologies that will enable ACC members to advance the care of their patients. This includes engagement of the clinical, research community and private vendors working on these technologies.

Technology areas where the ACC has interest in development includes telemedicine, artificial intelligence (AI), integration of remote monitoring or consumer monitoring devices for clinical use, and new ways to use patient data to improve care.
