Hillary Clinton among featured speakers at 63rd Society of Thoracic Surgeons Annual Meeting
The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) has announced that former Secretary State and first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton will be a featured speaker at the 63rd STS Annual Meeting in San Diego.
The four-day event is scheduled for Jan. 28-31, 2027. Clinton’s presentation, “A Conversation with Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton,” will focus on lessons learned from her life of leadership and public service.
The STS Annual Meeting gathers physicians, researchers, residents, advanced practice providers, executives and other stakeholders from the world of thoracic surgery. This year’s theme, “Excellence. Evidence. Impact,” is intended to make attendees think outside the box in terms of patient care and consider the very principles that will define thoracic surgery in 2027 and beyond.
Clinton was the first lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001. She served as a U.S. senator from 2001 to 2009 and then the U.S. Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013. She was also the Democratic Party’s nominee in the 2016 presidential election, losing to President Donald Trump.
In addition to Clinton, other featured speakers will include:
- Shivdev Rao, MD – CEO and founder of Abridge
- Wayne A. I. Frederick, MD, MBA – President of Howard University
- Clay B. Marsh, MD – Chancellor of West Virginia University
“We are honored to welcome four remarkable leaders whose achievements have shaped their professions and influenced the world around them,” Vinay Badhwar, MD, STS president and executive chair of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, said in a statement. “Each speaker has demonstrated the ability to turn bold ideas into meaningful action. Their insights will inspire attendees to consider new perspectives, embrace emerging opportunities, and lead with greater purpose in a rapidly changing world.”
