Cardiac Imaging

While cardiac ultrasound is the widely used imaging modality for heart assessments, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear imaging are also used and are often complimentary, each offering specific details about the heart other modalities cannot. For this reason the clinical question being asked often determines the imaging test that will be used.

MR reduction after TMVR with the FORTIS valve maintained at 2 years

The first report to address long-term outcomes for patients with severe native mitral regurgitation (MR) who are treated with transcatheter mitral valve replacement has found that post-procedural reductions in MR held up over time, with no significant recurrence upon two-year follow-up.

Cardiac MRI links trabeculation, myocardial function

Excess greater left ventricle (LV) trabeculation is associated with decreased average regional myocardial function, measured by myocardial strain. A team of researchers, examining MRIs of 1,123 individuals, found that average regional LV function was worse in those with greater LV trabeculation.

Joint document details how to diagnose, treat cardiac sarcoidosis

A multidisciplinary team of experts has released a joint consensus document on the role of F-FDG PET/CT in cardiac sarcoid detection and therapy monitoring.

HeartSciences Announces CE Mark and European Launch of MyoVista® High Sensitivity ECG Device

WESTLAKE, Texas, Aug. 17, 2017 — HeartSciences today announced the European launch of MyoVista® high sensitivity electrocardiograph (hsECG™) Testing Device, developed in response to the global unmet need for effective, low-cost, front-line screening of cardiac disease in both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients.

CT helps predict risks after TAVR

Computed tomography (CT)-derived measures of annulus area can be used to flag cases of heightened risk for poor hemodynamics after valve-in-valve (VIV) procedures, according to recently published research.

New screening guidelines boosts detection of aortic aneurysm

New research published online in the Journal of the American College of Radiology examined whether the updated USPSTF guidelines have affected AAA ultrasound screenings in terms of volume and patient diversity.
