The world’s best hospitals for heart surgery

Newsweek has published its 2027 list of the world’s top specialized hospitals. It included rankings for several categories, including cardiology, cardiac surgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology, nephrology, neurology, neurosurgery, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, orthopedics, pediatrics, pulmonology and urology.

Mayo Clinic came in at No. 1 of the cardiac surgery rankings. Cleveland Clinic was No. 2 and Massachusetts General Hospital was No. 3. Yes, that is three U.S.-based facilities at the very top of the list.

In fact, according to Newsweek, 13 of the top 20 hospitals for cardiac surgery in the entire world are located in the United States.

Another interesting note about these top three hospitals is that they were also the top three choices in Newsweek’s list of the top hospitals for cardiology. The only difference is that Cleveland Clinic was at the top of that particular list while Mayo Clinic came in at No. 2.

In total, Newsweek ranked the world’s 150 top hospitals for cardiac surgery. Read that full list here.

How these rankings were put together

Newsweek partnered with Statista to develop these lists. The two groups focused on three primary factors: reputation, accreditation and patient-reported outcome measures. Reputation is based on a survey and plays the biggest role in determining how these facilities are ranked. Newsweek and Statista wrote about their process in detail in a 12-page report.
