GE HealthCare launches ‘ultra-premium’ Vivid Pioneer cardiovascular ultrasound system

GE HealthCare has officially launched Vivid Pioneer, which the company describes as its “most advanced, ultra-premium and adaptive cardiovascular ultrasound system yet.” The brand new imaging technology is making its debut at ESC 2025, the annual meeting of the European Society of Cardiology, from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1.

Vivid Pioneer can be used for 2D, 4D and color flow imaging. It includes GE HealthCare’s next-generation cSound Pioneer architecture as well 4Vc-D and 6Sc-D probes built with image clarity and accuracy in mind. Vivid Pioneer’s artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities also represent a considerable upgrade for GE HealthCare; its advanced algorithms are more than 300% faster than previous ultrasound systems, turning processes that were once time-consuming into automated tasks that take just fractions of a second.

According to GE HealthCare, another primary benefit of this new ultrasound system is its clinician-friendly size and user interface. The company added a larger screen and a fully customizable touch panel while maintaining a compact size that can be steered through even the tightest clinical work areas. In addition, the system’s onboard battery allows users to continue using Vivid Pioneer for up to five minutes during a power outage.

“Vivid Pioneer is a fantastic new machine because it brings two very important things for my patients, as a pediatric cardiologist,” Ferran Roses, MD, head of pediatric cardiology with Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona, Spain, said in a statement. “The first one is extremely good image quality, and the second one is automatic quantification modes for most of my workflow so I can do my scanning very quickly. The new features allow us to see in much more detail and to diagnose more precisely.”

“Vivid Pioneer is built to meet the moment in cardiovascular care where precision, speed, and accuracy are essential,” added Jyoti Gera, CEO of cardiovascular and interventional solutions at GE HealthCare. “With its next-generation imaging engine, AI-powered automation, and intuitive design, the goal of Vivid Pioneer is to empower clinicians to see more, do more, and address patient needs with comfort and confidence.”
