Technologies used in cardiology every day land on Time's ‘Best Inventions’ list
Time Magazine has announced its list of The Best Inventions of 2026, highlighting new products in the worlds of healthcare, consumer electronics, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and several other categories.
The healthcare category includes two selections used by cardiologists and other cardiovascular care professionals on a daily basis: Aidoc’s CARE (Clinical AI Reasoning Engine) foundation model and Recor Medical’s Paradise Ultrasound Renal Denervation (uRDN) system.
Aidoc’s CARE foundation model
Foundation models are massive AI models designed to take on numerous tasks at once. Aidoc’s CARE foundation model was trained on large real-world datasets and powers multiple U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared applications. It helps clinicians detect early warnings signs of many conditions, including several in the cardiovascular space, and works within the electronic health record to share warnings and prioritize high-risk cases as needed.
According to Aidoc, its CARE-enabled offerings are already being used in more than 1,600 hospitals all over the world.

Recor Medical’s Paradise Ultrasound Renal Denervation system
Renal denervation (RDN) represents one of cardiology’s biggest ongoing success stories. It gives clinicians a new way to treat uncontrolled hypertension—one that is minimally invasive and associated with consistent blood pressure improvements.
During RDN procedures, clinicians target and ablate overactive renal nerves to permanently prop open the renal arteries to increase kidney filtration. This does not cure hypertension, but it results in lasting blood pressure reductions known to improve a person’s cardiovascular health. The two primary RDN offerings clinicians may be familiar with are Recor Medical’s Paradise uRDN system and Medtronic’s Symplicity Spyral RDN system.
Recor Medical’s RDN technology, which first gained FDA approval in 2023, stands out thanks to its use of ultrasound energy. The system delivers seven-second bursts of ultrasound energy to the patient’s main renal arteries, providing relief from a condition that significantly increases the risk of major adverse events.
“Being named one of Time’s Best Inventions is a tremendous honor and a validation of our work to advance a new approach to treating uncontrolled hypertension,” Helen Reeve-Stoffer, CEO of Recor Medical, said in a statement. “Hypertension, often called ‘the Silent Killer,’ remains one of healthcare’s most pressing issues worldwide. If left untreated, it can lead to many serious cardiovascular issues, including heart attack and stroke. The Paradise uRDN system offers physicians a clinically proven option to provide meaningful and sustained blood pressure reductions to their patients who struggle to achieve control.”
