Veteran interventional cardiologist named editor-in-chief of ACC journal
Mohamad Alkhouli, MD, MBA, a professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic School of Medicine and practicing cardiologist, is the new editor-in-chief of JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, an American College of Cardiology (ACC) journal focused on interventional cardiology.
“It is a profound honor to lead the next chapter of JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, a journal that has helped shape interventional cardiology for nearly two decades,” Alkhouli said in a statement. “As our field enters an extraordinary era of discovery and transformation, the journal must not only evolve with it, but help illuminate the path forward. My aspiration is to lead with rigor, curiosity and openness and to ensure that the best ideas, wherever they arise, are recognized, elevated and ultimately translated into better care for the patients we serve.”
Alkhouli is recognized all over the world for his research in such areas as coronary heart disease, structural heart disease, cardiac imaging and stroke prevention. He has authored or co-authored more than 550 peer-reviewed publications and been invited to speak on these topics in more than 20 countries. Alkhouli has also held a number of leadership positions with the ACC, most recently serving as the deputy editor of JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions.

Krumholz, MD, editor-in-chief of JACC and a professor at Yale School of Medicine, said in the same statement. “This is exactly the moment the field needs trusted sources of information and for journals to use their influence to strengthen communities and lead the effort to advance global cardiovascular health.”
The journal’s current editor-in-chief is David J. Moliterno, MD, a professor at the University of Kentucky who has held the position for nearly a decade.
