The best heart hospitals in the United States
There is a new No. 1 hospital in the United States for cardiology, heart surgery and vascular surgery, according to updated rankings from U.S. News & World Report.
NYU Langone Hospitals in New York City now sits at the top of the annual list. Mount Sinai Hospital is No. 2.
Cleveland Clinic, ranked No. 1 for five straight years, came in at No. 3.
This Best Hospitals report, released each summer, is designed to help patients find the best care possible when seeking treatment. It includes an overall ranking as well as specific lists focused on different specialties. Data from nearly 4,500 facilities were reviewed to put together this latest report.
These lists are based on a variety of criteria. For the Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery list, for example, scores are based on patient outcomes (45%), hospital structure (35%), expert opinion surveys (12%), patient experience scores (5%) and participation in public transparency initiatives (3%).
“For most Americans, healthcare decisions are made close to home,” Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News, said in a statement. “The Best Regional Hospitals rankings underscore the difference high-performing local medical centers make. These local hospital rankings, entirely performance-driven, equip individuals and their families, in consultation with their medical providers, to choose the highest quality care available in their own communities.”
Despite the minor changes at the very top, these rankings are quite similar to the 2024 list. One notable change is that Advocate Christ Medical Center, located in the Chicago suburb of Oak Lawn, jumped from No. 30 to No. 23.
