Patterson joins N.Y. hospital as senior VP, COO
Cam Patterson, MD, MBA, left the University of North Carolina to assume the position of senior vice president and chief operating officer of NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City.
Patterson joined NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center on Jan. 6. In his new role, he will provide strategic direction and management.
He held several leadership positions at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) School of Medicine, including distinguished professor of medicine; associate chair of research; associate dean of healthcare entrepreneurship; physician-in-chief at the UNC Center for Heart and Vascular Care; and chief of the division of cardiology.
He also served as executive director of Carolina KickStart, which helps faculty turn research discoveries into biotechnology companies.
He joined UNC in 2000. While there, he has founded three biotechnology startups: Dyzen, which offers a laboratory management software application; Enci Therapeutics, which develops technology for treating breast cancer; and Clave Biodesign, which is used to identify new blood vessel growth for imaging and therapeutic purposes in the cancer setting.
"Dr. Patterson brings significant experience running outstanding multidisciplinary clinical and research programs," said Steven J. Corwin, MD, CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, in a release.
Patterson earned his MBA from UNC and his MD from Emory University, where he served as a resident and chief resident in internal medicine at Emory University Hospital. He completed a research fellowship in cardiovascular biology at the Harvard School of Public Health and a clinical fellowship in cardiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
