U.K. agency issues CT scanner alert
The U.K. Medicines and Healthcare products and Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued an alert that nine Philips Healthcare CT scanner beds have the potential to collapse, posing risks to patients undergoing exams.
The medical device alert indicated that a table holding a patient fell vertically from the upright position at an unnamed hospital or imaging center. The problem resulted from a failed brake hub, according to MHRA.
The agency sent the warning to National Health Service (NHS) boards and trusts in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as to the Care Quality Commission Headquarters in Newcastle, England. Philips will repair all affected scanners, which include the Brilliance 6, 10, 16, 16P, 40, 64, Big Bore, iCT and iCT SP.
