Cardiac Imaging

While cardiac ultrasound is the widely used imaging modality for heart assessments, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear imaging are also used and are often complimentary, each offering specific details about the heart other modalities cannot. For this reason the clinical question being asked often determines the imaging test that will be used.

Philips updates, expands cardiac ultrasound platform

Royal Philips has rolled out the latest update for its EPIQ CVx and EPIQ CVxi cardiac ultrasound systems, expanding to include automated applications for 2D assessment of the heart and robust 3D measurements of right ventricular volume and ejection fraction.

Is MRI better than angiography for diagnosing, treating certain heart attacks?

It can be hard for physicians to identify the damaged artery responsible for a non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). Typically coronary angiography is the first choice, but is it the best?

1st live transmission of robotic PCI performed in Europe

Corindus Vascular Robotics’ CorPath GRX system—the world’s only FDA-approved and CE-marked robotic platform for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and peripheral vascular intervention—was used in the first-ever live transmission of a robotic PCI in Europe during this year's EuroPCR congress.

Study suggests MRI should be standard practice for NSTEMI diagnosis, treatment

Bypassing standard angiography and skipping straight to an MRI might help physicians more easily identify and treat patients who have suffered non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), a team at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian have found.

Orsiro achieves lower target lesion failure, revascularization than thicker stents

Three-year results of the BIO-RESORT study, presented at EuroPCR this week in Paris, put Biotronik’s ultrathin Orsiro stent ahead of two other competitors in terms of target lesion failure and revascularization.
