The 50 best heart hospitals in the world

Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and The Johns Hopkins Hospital are the top three hospitals for cardiology in the entire world, according to a new global ranking published by Newsweek. The top five choices, and seven of the top 10, are all located in the United States.

The 2024 World’s Best Specialized Hospitals represent a collaboration between Newsweek and Statista, a data and business intelligence platform based out of Germany. The rankings, based on survey data from more than 30 countries, cover 12 different specialties: cardiology, cardiac surgery, oncology, pediatrics, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, urology and obstetrics and gynecology. While the ranking includes 300 hospitals for cardiology and oncology, the list for most other specialties stops at 100-150 hospitals.

“Information is a powerful tool when you or someone you love is facing an important healthcare decision, especially one that requires selecting a hospital or care team,” Nancy Cooper, Newsweek’s global editor in chief, said in her introduction to the rankings. “That's why Newsweek has once again partnered with global research firm Statista to rank the world's best specialized hospitals.”

Newsweek did emphasize that patients in need of care should not rely solely on its rankings when seeking treatment.

“The results of this ranking should not be used as the sole source of information for future deliberations,” the company wrote. “The information provided in this ranking should be considered in conjunction with other available information about hospitals or, if possible, accompanied by a visit to a facility.”
